Description
The second tale in the Merchant of Souls Trilogy follows the cursed pocket watch from Nuremberg to Berlin, Germany, in 1772.
Freda has briefly lived long enough with the watch to know that something is terribly wrong with it. Its presence unsettles her. Its ticking follows her thoughts. She cannot explain the fear it places in her heart, but she knows she must be rid of it before something she cannot explain destroys her life.
Desperate to escape its influence, she takes the watch to an antique shop in Berlin and offers it to the proprietor, Bernhard. The merchant is captivated the moment he sees it. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. The gold gleams with an elegance unlike anything he has encountered before. Freda warns him that something uncannily about it. Bernhard dismisses her fears as superstition.
For a price he cannot resist, he takes the watch off her hands.
What Freda does not know is that the watch has already chosen its next owner.
What Bernhard does not know is that the true cost of the watch is never paid in gold.
